January 16th: That The World May Believe
As Jesus continued to pray in John 17, praying that His disciples be sanctified (Jn 17:17), a concept we explored yesterday, He prayed “As you have sent me into the world, so I have them them into the world.” (Jn 17:18).
Jesus’ words in this verse bring to mind to the initial commissioning of the disciples (Mt 10:1-15 & Mk 3:14) when Jesus sends them out to preach among the Israelite people, as well as the Great Commission (Mt 28:18-20; Mk 16:15; Lk 24:46-49; Jn 20:21; Acts 1:8), when Jesus sends them to make disciples of all nations. It serves as a reminder that they (and we) have been sent by God to call people to turn from their sin, to God in faith.
As you spend time in prayer today, spend time praying that you and the other members of Mission Baptist Church would be actively involved in accomplishing the Great Commission right here where God has placed us. Pray that our unbelieving family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors would believe the Gospel. Pray that we (and other believers around us) would see that “the fields are white for harvest” (Jn 4:35) and that God would send others to join us in reaching the greater Pyeongtaek area for Christ (Mt 9:37).
