January 17th: That They… May Be With Me
Towards the end of his prayer in John 17, in verse 24, Jesus prayed “Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have give me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.” (Jn 17:24).
As we enter the final few days of our 21 days of prayer, today we focus our attention on the part of Jesus’ prayer where He prayed that we as his followers would be with Him, to see the glory that the Father had given to Him, having loved Him before the foundation of the world.
We know from other passages of Scripture (Mt 1:23; Jn 1:1-14) that Jesus came to be with us, to display the glory of God among us; and that He continues, even today, to be with us (Mt 28:18-20). But what Jesus was praying for in that moment is the day when we will be with Him (Jn 14:3) for all eternity, when we would see Him as He truly is, in all His glory.
As you spend time praying today, we want to encourage you to spend time praying with anticipation for the day Christ returns, praying as John the Apostle did “Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rv 22:20).
