January 19th: I Made Known To Them Your Name
As Jesus was nearing the end of His prayer in John 17, he prayed “I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known…” (Jn 17:26).
Back on day 3 of our 21 days of prayer, we spent time focusing in prayer on God’s name. A person’s name, in biblical times, revealed a lot about the person and their character, signifying who the person was and what they were like.
God’s name, LORD (in Hebrew, Yahweh) which we said was described as I AM and meant the self-existent, uncaused, unchanging one; was God’s covenant name revealed to Israel, intended to express His special care, covenant love, and the unwavering commitment that He had for his people.
When Jesus said that he made known to them your name, He was expressing the fact that Jesus revealed the character & person of God the Father (c.f. Jn 1:18; Heb 1:3); enabling us to know God at a personal level, know what He is like, and be known by Him.
As you spend time praying today, spend time thanking God that He revealed Himself through His Son Jesus Christ, making it possible for you to know Him personally and be known by Him.
